Minutes Of The Monthly Meeting Of The
Marstons Mills Village Association
____________________________________________________________
Secretary: David Curtis
A. Burgess House - Joint Committee
The President informed the Committee that the heating bill for Burgess House had finally been received.
She also said that, at the request of the Town, the bank account for the Burgess House would be turned over to the Town since it is a Town building.
The Town will pay the bills from this account but any receipts for using the House must be deposited in the account.
B. Board Of Directors
Present: Directors: Al Baker, David Curtis, Leah Curtis, Linda Edson, Craig Larson, Peter Lavigne, Ken Snell.
Absent: Directors: Donna Lawson, Debbie Lavoie, Bob Trout.
Guests: None
0. Call To Order And Welcoming Remarks
The President called the meeting to order at 7:30 PM.
Unfortunately the Rotary Club refused to fund the proposal recently submitted by the President.
The use of a lottery shared with the Library and the Men's Club is still an open issue. There is a desperate need for funds to continue the renovations of the Burgess House and the barn. A decision on the lottery is needed quickly so that the drawing can be held on River Day.
I. Minutes Of Last Meeting
Amendments were proposed and the approval delayed until the next meeting.
The minutes of the January 4 meeting were accepted.
II. Treasurer's Report
As of March 4, the balances in the accounts were:
 Operations: $2571.15.
 Daffodils: $46.00.
 Scholarship: $936.55.
 Sign: $100.00.
 Mural: $100.00.
 For a total of: $3753.70.
The report was accepted.
III. Correspondence
Letters were received from the Conservation District thanking the Board for making the Burgess House available for its function.
The Bell family thanking the Board for inviting them to switch on the Christmas lights and expressing pleasure at the plaque.
Five people (Dr. Fortes, Ms McPhee, Ms Garbutt, and Mr. & Mrs. Nelson) donating $75.00 to the Scholarship fund in memory of Esther M. Murray.
Senator O'Leary's office called the Secretary in response to the letter about traffic safety on route 28, especially at the 28/149 intersection. The Senator expressed his support but said that the State DPW did not place a high priority on work at the intersection.
IV. Status Of Action Items
The President sent a letter to Thomas Broderick saying that the Board felt the plans for the development at 211 Route 149 appear to be in keeping with the Comprehensive Plan and that the Board had no objection to demolition taking place on the site.
The Barnstable Historic Society is having a hearing on the matter on March 25.
V. Public Comment
None.
VI. Old Business
Peter Lavigne showed the latest plan for the soccer fields and pointed out that the parking lot was now shown at the west end and not in the center. The proposed completion date for the project is sometime in 2004.
There was further discussion of the village signs. The President will chase down the new sign that has been promised. There are two signs close to each other in the village that do not match. Also, should we replace the sign near the new Stop and Shop, and place a sign at Farmersville Road and Race Lane?
It was agreed to designate the first Sunday in May as River Day in perpetuity.
Bob Trout sent the scholarship information to the High School and one application has already been received.
VII. New Business
The issue of developing a more aggressive program of meetings to promote interest in the Association was discussed briefly.
The Secretary was asked to report at the next meeting on the Board Member's terms.
VIII. Next Meeting
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.
The next meeting is Tuesday April 1, 2003, Burgess House Committee at 7:00 PM and MMVA Board at 7:30 PM.
