Minutes Of The Monthly Meeting Of The
Marstons Mills Village Association
____________________________________________________________
Secretary: David Curtis
Burgess House - Joint Committee
The joint committee discussed the continuing problems with the heater and the lack of cooperation from the installer who is insisting it is functioning properly despite the obvious facts that it is not. It was agreed to pursue a more aggressive route with the installer and the manufacturer to get them to bring the system up to standard.
Another group has asked to rent the Burgess House for a meeting.
A tent rental company viewed the grounds and said that it would be possible to erect a tent for 200 people on the site. This gives us further information to use when soliciting organizations who may wish to hold functions at the Burgess House.
Board Of Directors
Present: Directors Al Baker, David Curtis, Donna Lawson, Peter Lavigne, Deb Lavoie, Ken Snell, Bob Trout.
Absent: Directors Leah Curtis, Linda Edson, Craig Larson.
Guests: Paul Doherty.
Call To Order And Welcoming Remarks
The Secretary called the meeting to order at 7:40 PM.
Minutes Of Last Meeting
The minutes of the last two meetings were accepted as amended.
Treasurer's Report
The Treasurer's report showed balances as of April 1, 2003:
 $2498.49 in operations.
 $46.00 in daffodils.
 $1061.55 in scholarships.
 $100.00 in signs.
 $100.00 in the mural account.
The report was accepted subject to eventual audit.
Correspondence
Communications about the Danforth land (the Marstons Mills airport) and the July 4th parade were received.
The Treasurer has written to two members advising them of overpayments in their membership dues. These will be applied to next year's memberships.
Status Of Action Items
The main item was the preparations for River Day on Sunday, May 4. Most issues seem to be well under control. Volunteers are needed for set up on Saturday and take down on Sunday.
Also, this year there will be no on-site parking except for handicapped people. Everyone else will park at the school and use a shuttle bus.
Public Comment
Paul Doherty expressed disappointment at the lack of priority given to the routes 28/149 intersection which he perceives to be a major accident spot.
The Board suggested contacting the police department to review accident reports for more concrete evidence of the need for improved safety.
Old Business
The scholarships sub-committee is still receiving applications. The High School has requested a decision by April 18 so they can include it in a set of announcements they will be making then.
We will follow our normal practice and give out the scholarships at the Annual General Meeting in June.
We will also acknowledge the recipients on the web site. The secretary will add a line to the annual membership solicitation requesting donations for the scholarship fund and the daffodils fund.
New Business
The bad weather during the winter has highlighted the poor condition of the parking lot for the Burgess House -- it is either a lake, an ice rink or a sea of mud. The secretary will write to President Blazis asking his support for improving the surface -- hard top?
There were brief discussions of the July 4 parade (we will not participate this year preferring to focus our resources on River Day and Village Day); the future of the Danforth land; affordable housing in Marstons Mills; and the Fire Station opening -- early June?
Next Meeting
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
The next meeting is Tuesday, May 6, Burgess House Committee at 7:00 PM and MMVA Board at 7:30 PM.
All meetings are open to the public.
