With the correction of changing Barton to Burgess House in Section 6.
Treasurer's Report
The Treasurer's report was accepted.
Craig Larson noted the tallies for expenses and revenue from River Day should be delivered promptly. He recalled the tally should account for $200 seed money for the event.
The Keyspan bill for Burgess House was discussed. It is much smaller with the warmer weather, but an averaged bill is anticipated to even out the upcoming year.
Correspondence
Correspondence was received from the Marstons Mills Library thanking us for supporting their expansion efforts.
Public Comment
Klaus Guttmann, (508) 428 1629, reports the verification of addresses in Marstons Mills is ongoing.
Volunteers are welcomed to continue the effort May 14th at the Sheriff's Youth Ranch.
Council Report
Janice Barton and Leah Curtis reported:
The town budget review is ongoing. Schools are anticipated to make up 72%, policing another 15%, and the Department of Public Works most of the rest of the budget. The schools are already close to the state minimum. Hence, another cut in town employees is coming. Concerns were expressed regarding next year.
To investigate potential sources of revenue, a new commission has been formed to look at properties not presently taxed in Barnstable.
A variety of issues were targeted as topics for the upcoming annual meeting in June.
Governor Romney's meeting with the town was reviewed and Janice Barton reported several of the Cape's unique funding constraints were brought to his attention.
Finally, it was noted that an affordable housing project has been proposed near the Stop & Shop.
Old Business
Subcommittee Reports:
Burgess House: No new business.
River Day: MMVA and the Indian Ponds Association congratulated members on their efforts.
Village Day: Whether the subcommittee should have it's own checking account was discussed. It was felt that incorporating Village Day as a line item within the existing MMVA checking account was preferable. The use(s) of the anticipated larger revenue from the road race were discussed, and felt to need clarification at a later meeting.
Membership: No new business.
Newsletter: The newsletter is complete. Copies are available.
Scholarship: Scholarships have been awarded to Justin Lacasse, Dugan Hayes, and Joseph Coleman. They are invited to the annual meeting to receive their scholarships.
New Business
The June meeting is the annual meeting. The importance of good attendance to make a quorum was stressed.
There will be four seats up for election at the meeting. Ken Snell will be retiring, leaving an open seat; and Peter Lavigne, Al Baker, and Donna Lawson are up for re-election.
Next Meeting
The meeting was adjourned at 9:03 PM.
The next meeting is Tuesday, June 2nd, at 7:00 PM. Speakers: Town Councilors and Subcommittees of MMVA will report on the year.
